Sapito Coquí Antillano
An art toy/installation featuring frog-like figures with masks, symbolising childhood perspective, identity, and my South American roots.
The sapito coquí's origin story begins in Puerto Rico, where they are originally from. These species migrated to Venezuela through human activities and plant trade. Once in Venezuela, they added a classic sound to many Venezuelan nights. Now, these sapitos are being made in Sydney, Australia. They aim to introduce that special sound to a new culture without forcing any species to migrate. It's a nostalgic journey for Venezuelan colleagues in migration, bringing back memories of their roots in a fun and engaging way.
