Arte + comunidad: transformar espacios y mentes en Brookvale

It’s been a while since I posted here. I’ve been deep in some projects and jumping between others, but mostly testing better ways to connect art and tech with community and district projects, such as BAD (Brookvale Arts District) and Le Crème Creative (soon switching to a digital platform).
The first time I felt Brookvale, NSN could be more than an industrial zone was in 2016, when we noticed the need from an indie-creative fauna to connect and produce within a common environment, even larger than a warehouse.
Later on during my solo show at La Crème Creative, in Brookvale, we set a simple route between my studio/ gallery, a friend’s studio/ gallery and local brewery Bucketty’s. I saw something so awesome: people walking the streets, feeling safe, enjoying the outdoor, while looking for art and more art. The city should be a living gallery!
BAD Poster is that. An AR poster that took us all the way to NSW Parliament. That contrast made it clear: BAD (and any hub that evolves around creativity) can be a system for all-day art that is seen, enjoyed and shared at any moment by visitors and the people who work and play there.
For some of BAD activations I work as manager, community player and collaborator (planning, tech operations, curating art, doing some finance and the digital build). We run it using Notion so a small team stays smooth and efficient while managing a huge project.

During all this I don’t take off my art hat, literally and figuratively. Professionalism isn’t a suit and tie. It’s attitude, action and impact. I keep remembering that art and creativity are the engines behind change.
Activating a community isn’t just painting walls. The hard part is activating minds and showing that if we don’t invest time and skills, nothing moves.
Every activation has been a bucket load or learnings. Every one leaves a mark in the audience, the community and the place.
The real work: build community through art.
